Descriptive Linguistics

Descriptive linguistics is a field of linguistics which aims to create a complete description of a language and analyse the structure, grammar, and meaning of its words. This field seeks to describe all aspects of a language, including its sounds, syntax, morphology, lexicon, and discourse. The description of a language is a valuable tool in helping to understand the structure of a language and how it works, which is beneficial for both linguists and laypeople. Descriptive linguistics also provides a basis for developing other applications of linguistics, such as language teaching, computer programming, and the formulation of grammars and dictionaries. Furthermore, it can be used to compare the structure of different languages and to identify and explain universal principles of language. In addition, descriptive linguistics can be used to help preserve endangered languages by providing an in-depth description of them.
