Overview

Plastic surgery is a medical specialty that involves the correction or restoration of form and function of the body. It utilizes surgical and non-surgical techniques to reshape structures of the body to improve appearance and function. Plastic surgery can be used to enhance or reconstruct facial features, and post-trauma or post-surgery reconstruction, including correction of congenital defects such as cleft palate. It can also be used for breast reconstruction following mastectomy, for burn repair, and for aesthetic purposes such as tummy tuck or liposuction. Plastic surgery has the potential to improve one’s physical and psychological wellbeing, increasing the person’s self-confidence and providing a sense of renewed self-esteem.
