Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a condition in which stomach acid and other contents of the stomach flow backwards into the esophagus, causing heartburn and other symptoms. GERD can lead to serious complications if left untreated including esophagitis, Barrett's esophagus, and even esophageal cancer. Treatment may involve lifestyle modifications, medications, or surgery. GERD is a common digestive disorder that affects millions of people worldwide, however it is very manageable with the right treatment.
