Overview
Colorectal cancer is a cancer that affects the large intestine (colon) and rectum. It is one of the most common types of cancer and can be life-threatening if not treated in a timely manner. Its symptoms include rectal bleeding, changes in bowel habits, and abdominal pain or discomfort. Screening tests, such as colonoscopy or fecal immunochemical tests, are used to detect the early stages of colorectal cancer and improve the success rate of treatment. Treatment for colorectal cancer includes surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, depending on the stage and severity of the disease. Making lifestyle changes including getting regular exercise, eating a balanced diet, and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can help reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.
