About the Journal of Wildlife
The Journal of Wildlife (JWL) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal of research on wild animals and their habitats, from field observation and population ecology to conservation management and policy. It has been published by Open Access Pub since 2022.
Purpose and readership
Evidence for the study and care of wild animals
JWL serves researchers, wildlife managers, conservation practitioners, policymakers and educators who need sound evidence on how wild animal populations live, change and can be conserved.
JWL publishes research on wild animals in the field and in the landscape. It considers work on populations, communities and species of any taxon, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fishes and invertebrates, in terrestrial, freshwater and marine settings, and from every region of the world.
Its aims are to publish methodologically sound research on the ecology, behavior, health, genetics and management of wildlife, to advance the field and analytical methods on which that research depends, and to make the results freely available to everyone who can use them.
The journal welcomes contributions from the disciplines that inform wildlife science, including ecology, conservation biology, genetics, remote sensing and spatial analysis, policy and law, and the social sciences. The Aims and Scope page describes the scope and eligibility in full.

Editorial responsibility
Who decides
The journal is edited by its Editorial Board, whose members handle manuscripts within their expertise and advise on the journal's scope and policies.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. They are independent of the article processing charge and of any fee-relief inquiry. Editors with a conflict of interest are recused from handling the manuscript.
Peer review
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts. Standards
Research integrity and open access
Publication ethics
The journal follows the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Concerns are handled following COPE flowcharts.
Animal research and permits
Ethics approval and collection or access permits are reported where applicable, with ARRIVE reporting for animal studies.
Data availability
Every empirical research manuscript must include a data-availability statement. Locations of vulnerable species may be generalized.
