Submissions are accepted year-round and assessed as received. The Journal of Plant and Animal Ecology keeps no closing date and no themed window, so a manuscript enters assessment on the strength of the work itself.

Work the journal welcomes
Submit your research to JPAE. The Journal of Plant and Animal Ecology welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers working across plant and animal ecology, in terrestrial, freshwater and marine systems, and at every scale from the individual organism to the whole ecosystem.
Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year.
Breadth
No theme to fit
The journal takes an interest in questions across the whole of its subject, and a manuscript need not resemble anything it has published before. Studies that cross between plants and animals, between scales, or between fundamental and applied questions are particularly welcome, as are careful descriptive work and results that did not turn out as expected.
What the journal asks is that the ecological reasoning is carried by the study itself and that the conclusions stay within what the evidence supports. The Aims and Scope page sets out the boundary in full.
