JMID considers research in medical and health informatics and healthcare decision science. The Aims and Scope defines manuscript fit; individual editors contribute expertise within their own fields.

Editors and reviewers declare competing interests and take no part in handling manuscripts for which impartiality could reasonably be questioned, including their own submissions; those manuscripts are handled independently.

Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Editorial service, fees and membership confer no advantage in review or acceptance.

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.

Peer review: Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
