Call for Papers
International Journal of Clinical Microbiology welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers, clinicians and multidisciplinary teams working across clinical laboratory and infection-related microbiology. Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year.
What the journal is looking for
These are the areas where the editors most want to see manuscripts. They are not the limits of the scope — the aims and scope page is.
Diagnostic accuracy and method evaluation. Studies comparing a method against a stated reference standard in clinical material — including the ones that find the new method no better, which are published far less often than they should be.
Antimicrobial susceptibility and resistance. Testing methodology, the detection and characterization of resistance mechanisms, and surveillance in a described isolate collection.
Molecular diagnostics. Assay development and verification in the specimen type and setting of use, including multiplex and syndromic panels.
Clinical microbial genomics. Sequencing applied to identification, typing, outbreak investigation and resistance prediction, and the agreement between genotype and phenotype.
Medical mycology. Identification and antifungal susceptibility testing, and the laboratory diagnosis of invasive disease.
Diagnostics under constraint. Method evaluation where reagents, instrumentation or cold chain are limited. These studies answer questions that reference laboratories cannot.
Laboratory quality. Verification, internal and external quality assessment, and specimen acceptance criteria, reported as primary research rather than as an appendix.
Whether your work fits
Use these questions to assess likely fit. They guide scope screening; they do not determine acceptance.
- Microorganism. Does the work address microorganisms, microbial communities or laboratory methods relevant to human or animal infection, colonization or clinical care?
- Evidence. Does the manuscript make a substantive clinical microbiological contribution through new data, reanalysis, evidence synthesis, methods, modeling or scholarly interpretation?
- Consequence. Is the contribution to clinical laboratory microbiology or infection-related microbial biology central, with conclusions proportionate to the study design and evidence?
