About the Journal of Hereditary Diseases

The Journal of Hereditary Diseases (JHD) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal of research on inherited disease, from the gene variant to the family and the clinic. It is published by Open Access Pub, and Volume 1 began in 2024.

Purpose and readership

Research on the causes, diagnosis and treatment of inherited disease

JHD serves clinical and laboratory geneticists, physicians, genetic counselors, bioinformaticians and public-health researchers who work on conditions with an inherited component.

JHD publishes research on inherited disorders and diseases, including their causes, diagnosis, prevention and treatment. The journal considers work at every scale at which inherited disease is studied, from variants and molecular mechanisms to patients, families and populations, and welcomes work on single-gene, chromosomal, mitochondrial and multifactorial conditions.

Its aims are to publish methodologically sound research that improves the understanding and care of inherited disease, to support responsible genetic testing, screening and counseling, and to make the results freely available to everyone who can use them.

The Aims and Scope page describes the research the journal welcomes and the ethical commitments that apply to studies of patients and families.
