About the Journal of Genetic Engineering
The Journal of Genetic Engineering (JGE) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal for research that designs, modifies and models genetic material, from genome editing and recombinant DNA to synthetic biology, gene therapy and the quantitative study of heredity. It has been published by Open Access Pub since 2019.
Purpose and readership
Research on the design, modification and analysis of genes
JGE serves molecular and computational biologists, bioengineers, clinical and translational researchers, plant and microbial scientists, mathematical geneticists and scholars of biosafety and governance.
JGE publishes original research, reviews and methods across genetic engineering in its full breadth. The journal welcomes work from the laboratory, the clinic, the field and the computer, including mathematical and computational studies of genetic and population processes, together with analysis of the ethical, legal and regulatory questions the field raises.
Its aims are to publish methodologically sound research that advances how genetic material is designed, modified, delivered and understood, to support reproducible methods and open data, and to make the results freely available to everyone who can use them.

The Editor-in-Chief leads the journal's editorial direction and oversees its decisions, supported by an international editorial board of researchers who handle manuscripts within their expertise and advise on the journal's scope and policies.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. They are independent of the article processing charge and of any fee-relief inquiry. Editors with a conflict of interest are recused from handling the manuscript.
Peer review
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts. JGE is an open-access journal. All articles are freely available on openaccesspub.org from the day of publication, without subscription or registration.
Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0), which permits anyone to read, download, copy, distribute, adapt and reuse the work for any lawful purpose, provided the authors and the original publication are credited. Authors retain copyright in their work and may deposit any version of their article, including the published version, in institutional or subject repositories without embargo.
Preservation and discovery
A lasting, citable record
JGE articles will be deposited in Portico, a not-for-profit digital-preservation archive, so that the published record remains available for the long term. Read our preservation policy.
