Ocean Currents
Ocean currents are large-scale movements of seawater in the oceans driven by global wind systems, gravity, and the Earth’s rotation. These currents help shape the climate and marine life of various regions and help to move heat, nutrients and other substances around the world. Ocean currents have a significant impact on global and regional climate, and have an important role in the carbon cycle, coral reef ecology, and the regulation of marine species. They also have a significant role in shipping, fisheries and other human activities. Understanding the behavior of ocean currents is key to understanding the planet’s climate and ecosystems.
