Marine Conservation
Marine conservation is the practice and study of protecting and restoring ocean ecosystems, with the aim of preserving marine life and habitats. It is an interdisciplinary field that involves biology, chemistry, physics, and other scientific disciplines. By doing so, various activities are undertaken such as reducing or eliminating pollution, restoring sea grass beds and coral reefs, reducing fishing pressure and over-exploitation of resources, and curbing invasive species. Marine conservation also includes activities like community-based efforts, public awareness campaigns, and ocean zoning. Marine conservation ensures healthy and ecologically functioning marine environments that are home to a wide variety of species, provide food security, and improve recreation and commercial development opportunities.
