Hydrology

Hydrology is a field of study that focuses on the characteristics, distribution and circulation of water on the planet. It has a major impact on the environment, due to its ability to regulate temperature and irrigation, and is used to study a range of physical, chemical and biological processes occurring in surface and subsurface water environments. Through hydrological analysis, scientists are able to understand the impacts of climate change and other factors on water systems, as well as monitor and predict water availability. Furthermore, hydrology is essential for assessing water resources, quantifying water-related hazards such as floods and droughts, and developing plans for sustainable water management.
