Coastal Ecology
Coastal ecology is a field of study that looks at the interactions of organisms and their environment in the coastal areas of oceans, seas, estuaries, and rivers. It studies the physical, chemical and biological processes that occur in these environments, as well as their ecology and conservation. Coastal ecology is critical for understanding the health of our marine ecosystems, as well as informing strategies for sustainable development. It is also important for understanding the impacts of human activities on coasts, and for identifying ways to adapt to and mitigate climate change. Studies of coastal ecology help identify species of plants and animals, how they interact with each other, and how they are affected by environmental changes. This research is essential for guiding coastal management, as well as helping to restore coastal habitats.
