Chondrichthyes

Chondrichthyes are a class of fish characterized by their cartilaginous skeletons and fins. These fish are important components of marine ecosystems and are among the most diverse and widely distributed species in the world. Chondrichthyes include sharks, rays, skates, and chimeras. They play a variety of roles in their habitats including top predators, scavengers, and filter feeders. They are also important commercially, as their meat and fins are consumed as food and their skin is used in leather products. Moreover, they are sought-after species in recreational fisheries. Understanding the biology and ecology of chondrichthyes is essential for the conservation and management of these fish, as well as for understanding the health of marine ecosystems they inhabit.
