Biomphalaria
Biomphalaria is a genus of air-breathing freshwater snails, aquatic pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Planorbidae. This genus is a vector for transmitting Schistosoma species of parasitic worms, which are considered one of the most dangerous parasites in humans. The snails are found in tropical and subtropical areas, and are considered a major health problem in tropical countries due to their ability to spread the parasites. In order to prevent the spread of Schistosoma infection, research has been conducted to control the population of Biomphalaria. Control methods such as chemical and physical treatments, and the introduction of predatory species have been developed, showing great potential for controlling the spread of this dangerous parasite.
