Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious disease caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. It is spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes, and affects the lungs primarily, but can spread to other organs. Symptoms include persistent coughing, chest pains, loss of appetite, fever and fatigue. Treatment is available, and TB is curable, but it requires multiple antibiotics taken over a long period of time. TB is one of the leading causes of death due to an infectious disease, particularly in developing countries, and there is an urgent need to continue research and development of better treatments and solutions.
