Asthma
Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition characterised by intermittent bouts of breathlessness and chest tightness. It affects people of all ages and can range from mild to severe. Asthma occurs when the airways become inflamed and narrowed, making it difficult to breathe. Treatment includes lifestyle changes, medication, and breathing exercises. Asthma can be life-threatening, but with good management and the right treatment it can be kept under control. Asthma is one of the most common chronic illnesses, affecting around 235 million people worldwide, and is a major cause of absenteeism from school and work. It is important for those with asthma to stay informed about their condition, recognise the warning signs of an oncoming attack, and be prepared with medication and other treatments to manage their asthma.
