Breast Cancer Surgery
Breast cancer surgery is a medical procedure used to remove cancerous tissue from a woman’s breasts. This helps to improve the prognosis of breast cancer, which is the second most common cancer among women in the United States. Surgery can be used to completely remove the tumor, or to reduce its size before other treatments. Types of breast cancer surgery include a lumpectomy, mastectomy, and lymph node dissection. Surgery is associated with better outcomes and can be used to help manage the spread of cancer to other parts of the body. After surgery, additional treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, and hormone therapy may be used to increase the chances of successful recovery.
