Overview

STD testing is a process to detect the presence of sexually transmitted diseases, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, and HIV. By identifying STDs early on, individuals can take steps to limit the spread of the infection and seek proper treatment. STD testing can be done through blood or urine samples, or through a swab of the affected area. Tests may be used to diagnose a current infection, to look for possible infection, or to assess whether treatment for an existing infection has been successful. Early diagnosis and treatment of STDs is essential for preventing further health complications, as well as reducing the spread of STDs to others.
