Risk Factors for Sexually Transmitted Infections
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are infections that can be passed from one person to another through sexual contact. Risk factors for STIs include having unprotected sex, having multiple sexual partners, or not knowing one's partner's sexual history. People who have HIV/AIDS or other immune system impairments may also be at greater risk. STIs can have serious health consequences if left untreated, including infertility, organ damage, and even death. Practicing safe sex, such as using condoms and getting tested regularly, can help reduce the risk of contracting an STI.
