Overview

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is an infection that weakens the body's immune system, making it vulnerable to other infections, illnesses, and diseases. HIV clinical manifestations, also called AIDS-defining illnesses, refer to the physical signs and symptoms associated with HIV or AIDS. These can include swollen lymph nodes, fever, weight loss, and a variety of other illnesses. These manifestations can occur as the body's immune system is weakened and cannot effectively fight off infections. Early diagnosis and effective treatment of HIV are important, as it is a life-threatening virus. Early diagnosis can help people living with HIV manage and treat their symptoms, increasing their quality of life and prolonging their lifespan. Treatment can also reduce the chances of the virus being passed on to others.
