Overview
Functional psychology is an approach to psychology which takes a holistic and interdisciplinary view of the functioning of the human mind. It considers how various elements of our environment, such as family, culture, education, and physical environment, interact to shape and influence behaviour. The aim of functional psychology is to better understand the factors that lead to psychological wellbeing and mental health, and develop and implement strategies to promote and maintain it. It uses evidence-based tools such as cognitive behavioural therapy, psychotherapy and behavioural psychology to help people make positive changes to their lives. Functional psychology is an important tool in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of mental illnesses, and it has a direct application in many areas of clinical practice. Its aim is to help people lead a life of greater fulfilment and satisfaction.
