Safety Engineering
Safety Engineering is an interdisciplinary field of study focused on the safety and health of people, processes, and the environment. It combines elements of industrial engineering, systems engineering, and engineering management to identify and evaluate potential hazards and to design systems, procedures, and protective equipment that prevent or mitigate the effects of these hazards. Safety Engineers work to prevent fires, explosions, accidental releases of contaminants, structural collapses, and other hazardous events. The overarching goal of Safety Engineering is to reduce the number of incidents, injuries, and deaths due to preventable accidents. Safety Engineering is a vital component of any industrial or manufacturing process, and is integral to ensuring workplace safety and health.
