Overview

Child nutrition is the study and practice of providing children with the nutrients required for healthy growth, development, and wellbeing from infancy through adolescence. Adequate intake of energy, protein, vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients supports physical growth, brain and cognitive development, immune function, and long-term protection against disease, while undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and poor feeding practices can lead to stunting, wasting, and lasting health consequences. Child nutrition is shaped by feeding practices, food availability, socioeconomic conditions, and caregiver knowledge, making it a key focus of public-health and clinical efforts worldwide. Research published by the journal addresses many dimensions of child and infant nutrition, particularly in resource-limited settings. Work includes a comprehensive study assessing the nutritional status and health outcomes of women and children in Bangladesh, research on common complementary feeding practices among under-five children in Zambia, and an investigation of risk factors for stunted growth among children aged six to fifty-nine months in rural Uganda. Additional studies have examined factors influencing recovery among children with moderate acute malnutrition. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to child nutrition, including growth, feeding practices, and the prevention of malnutrition.
