Overview
Agriculture is the cultivation of crops and the raising of livestock to produce food, fibre, and other products, and it forms the foundation of the global food supply. It encompasses farming practices, land and water management, soil fertility, and the technologies used to improve productivity, and it is closely tied to nutrition and public health, since the way food is produced shapes its availability, quality, and the diets of populations. Sustainable agricultural practices are increasingly central to meeting food needs while protecting natural resources. Within the journal's scope, where agriculture connects to food and nutrition, research has examined a range of agricultural topics, including precision agriculture in Sudan and its rice-yield gains, the application of permaculture practices in the Maltese islands, the strategic shifts needed to improve fertilizer response and foodgrain production in India, the retention of crop residues for sustainability in semi-arid tropics, and the relationship between water, energy, and food. Work on migration and remittances and their effect on agricultural employment further illustrates the field's social dimensions. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to agriculture, supporting agricultural scientists, nutrition researchers, and students interested in food production, sustainable farming, and the links between agriculture and health.
