Cognitive Informatics

Cognitive informatics is a field of interdisciplinary research that combines computer engineering and cognitive science to understand, interpret and model natural and artificially-made networks, information systems and processes. It takes a holistic approach to the study of how computers interact with the human mind and how humans interact with computers. Cognitive informatics can provide powerful insights into how to optimize the design of computer systems and applications to improve user experience and satisfaction. It can also be used to analyze complex decision-making processes and create computational models of these processes. The applications of cognitive informatics range from healthcare, education, business, and artificial intelligence to name a few. By advancing the understanding of how humans and machines interact it can provide a deeper understanding of how to better design, develop and manage information-based systems and processes.
