Alzheimer's Disease
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurological disorder that negatively affects memory, thinking, and behavior. It is the most common form of dementia, and affects more than 5 million people in the United States. Alzheimer's is a degenerative condition, meaning its effects worsen as time goes on. Symptoms include difficulty remembering recent events and conversations, difficulty with problem-solving tasks, difficulty completing familiar tasks, confusion, personality changes, and behavioral issues. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and providing support and care. Early diagnosis is key to slowing progression of the disease and increasing quality of life. No cure exists, but research is ongoing to better understand the causes and develop potential therapies.
