Coronary Heart Disease
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a major cause of death worldwide. It is a condition in which the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart, become narrowed or blocked, leading to reduced oxygen supply and a decrease in the capability of the heart to function. The reduced oxygen supply can damage the heart muscle and cause chest pain, a heart attack or sudden cardiac death. CHD is often preventable through lifestyle changes including eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, and limiting alcohol consumption or smoking. Treatment options for CHD include lifestyle changes, medications, and surgery. Early screening and prevention can help reduce the risk of developing CHD, and thus improve quality of life and lifespan.
