Trauma
Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is a psychosocial intervention designed to help people who have experienced traumatic events. It is based on cognitive behavioral therapy and combines skills from cognitive and behavioral therapies with trauma-specific interventions. TF-CBT helps people to process their traumatic experiences, cope with related distressing emotions, and reduce symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. It also promotes safety, positive parenting, and problem-solving. TF-CBT has been empirically shown to be effective in treating a wide range of trauma-related issues, such as depression and anxiety, as well as complex trauma-related symptoms including dissociative disorders. It has been used extensively with both adults and children, and has been adapted for use with couples, families, and groups. TF-CBT is an evidence-based intervention and has been identified as a best practice for the treatment of trauma-related issues.
