Public Health and Disease Prevention
Public health and disease prevention is an essential part of modern healthcare. It involves the promotion of healthy lifestyles and the prevention of disease, through a combination of community education, policy and regulation, and the delivery of physical and mental health services. Public health initiatives can help to reduce the incidence of many preventable diseases, including obesity, heart disease and some forms of cancer. It also seeks to improve the quality of life for individuals and communities, by addressing social determinants of health such as poverty, availability of safe and healthy housing, access to nutritious food and physical activity, and the presence of social support networks. Public health and disease prevention are central to improving population health and reducing healthcare costs, and are integral to a successful healthcare system.
