Membrane Composition
The membrane composition of cells is an extremely important feature in cellular biology. It is composed of proteins and lipids, and helps to compartmentalize the interior contents of a cell from the outside environment. It further helps in regulating the transport of molecules from the extracellular space into the cell, and vice versa. Additionally, membrane composition plays a vital role in cell-to-cell communication and recognition between cells. Its composition can vary dramatically between different types of cells, and is essential for the proper functioning of cells in both human and animal life. It is also important for many medical purposes, such as drug delivery, gene therapy, and tissue engineering.
