Bovine Mastitis

Bovine Mastitis is an infection of the udder of cows caused by bacteria, which can cause inflammation and a decrease in milk production. It is a major economic problem worldwide as it results in immense economic losses due to impaired milk production, discarded milk, and costs associated with treatments. Bovine Mastitis is also a major animal welfare concern as it can cause discomfort and stress to the cow due to the associated swelling, redness and pain. For the prevention and control of Bovine Mastitis, vaccination, strategic use of antibiotics, improved milking hygiene and monitoring of udder health, are all important strategies.
