Overview
Infectious Diseases HIV Infection and AIDS have become a global public health problem. HIV, a virus that is spread through body fluids, is the virus that causes AIDS. AIDS is a condition that weakens the immune system and makes a person vulnerable to other infections and diseases. HIV/AIDS is a major cause of death and disability worldwide and there is still no cure. Prevention is the best way to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and is achieved through education, testing, and treatment. Early detection and proper treatment of HIV infection can improve quality of life for those living with the virus, even if the virus cannot be completely eliminated. It is also important to take steps to reduce the stigma and discrimination faced by those living with HIV/AIDS.
