Hiv-2
HIV-2 is a type of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the virus that causes AIDS. HIV-2 is mostly found in Western Africa and is responsible for about 10-20% of HIV infections in the region. There is currently no vaccine or cure for HIV-2, and it can only be managed through proper treatment and care with combination antiretroviral therapy (ART). HIV-2 is slightly different from HIV-1—the virus most commonly associated with AIDS—in terms of how it is spread and the severity of its impacts. Although HIV-2 is not as infectious as HIV-1, it can still be transmitted through sexual contact, shared needles, mother to child transmission, and other routes. It is important to get tested for both HIV-1 and HIV-2 in order to receive the best possible treatment and prevention measures.
