Overview

Control of infections during pregnancy is the set of measures used to prevent, detect, and manage infections in expectant mothers in order to protect both the woman and her developing baby. Infections in pregnancy can pose serious risks, contributing to complications for the mother and to harm to the fetus or newborn, so prevention is a priority. Strategies include good hygiene, avoiding exposure to known sources of infection, recommended immunizations, antenatal screening, prompt diagnosis and treatment, and careful infection prevention around childbirth, including surgical deliveries. Research published by an OpenAccessPub journal contributes to this area through work on surgical site infection in cesarean section operations, examining the risks and management of infection associated with a common mode of delivery. Such studies inform practices that reduce infection in the perioperative and postnatal periods, an important component of safe maternity care. By combining preventive, diagnostic, and treatment measures, control of infections during pregnancy supports better outcomes for mothers and infants. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to infection prevention in the context of pregnancy and childbirth, supporting understanding of how infections are controlled to safeguard maternal and neonatal health.
