Overview
Control of infections during pregnancy is the set of measures used to prevent, detect, and manage infections in expectant mothers in order to protect both the woman and her developing baby. Infections in pregnancy can pose serious risks, contributing to complications for the mother and to harm to the fetus or newborn, so prevention is a priority. Strategies include good hygiene, avoiding exposure to known sources of infection, recommended immunizations, antenatal screening, prompt diagnosis and treatment, and careful infection prevention around childbirth, including surgical deliveries.
