Aplastic Anemia

Aplastic Anemia is a rare and life-threatening blood disorder that affects the production of red and white blood cells as well as platelets. Patients with aplastic anemia have a reduced number of all three types of circulating blood cells. This causes extreme fatigue, increased risk of infection, and, in more serious cases, hemorrhage. Diagnosis is made by bone marrow test, and the most common treatments are blood transfusions and bone marrow transplants. Additionally, immunosuppressive drugs can be used to restore bone marrow function. Aplastic Anemia has a high mortality rate and requires prompt diagnosis and treatment.
