Ischemic Heart Disease
Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD) is a condition whereby the heart receives inadequate blood and oxygen, due to a narrowing or blocking of the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart. It is a major cause of mortality and morbidity globally and often results in sudden death. Its symptoms include chest pain, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeats and even heart failure. Treatment for IHD includes lifestyle changes, medications, catheter-based interventions and surgeries. As lifestyle plays a major role in IHD, along with medication, it is important for people to be informed about the risk factors of IHD and follow healthy lifestyle practices to reduce the risk.
