Heart Failure Preserved Ejection

Fraction (HFPEF). Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFPEF) is a type of heart failure in which the left ventricle is able to push out a normal amount of blood from the heart, but the ventricle's ability to relax and fill with blood is impaired. HFPEF is a major cause of disability, hospitalization, and death in older adults. It is often asymptomatic and can be difficult to diagnose. Treatment for HFPEF consists of lifestyle changes, such as limiting certain foods and exercising regularly, as well as medications to help manage the condition. Researchers are studying ways to better diagnose and treat HFPEF to help improve the quality of life for those affected.
