Congenital Heart Disease
Congenital heart disease is a group of conditions that are present at birth and are characterized by structural abnormalities of the heart and its associated vessels. These abnormalities can be present in the walls of the heart, the valves or the arteries and veins that deliver blood to and from the heart. Congenital heart defects can cause a wide range of symptoms and conditions, ranging from mild to life-threatening, and are a leading cause of newborn mortality. Diagnosis, management and treatment of congenital heart disease is complex and often requires a specialized interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. Early and accurate diagnosis of congenital heart defects can lead to improved outcomes and better quality of life for affected individuals.
