Cardiovascular Disease
. Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is a collective term for diseases of the heart, arteries and veins. It is a major cause of death globally and can cause heart attack, stroke, heart failure, and other health problems. CVD results from the build-up of fatty deposits in the walls of the arteries, leading to blockages and narrowing of the blood vessels, which impairs blood flow and can lead to heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular complications. Risk factors of CVD include smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and obesity. Prevention is key and includes exercising, reducing stress, maintaining a healthy diet, avoiding smoking and excessive drinking, and taking medication. Treatments include exercise, lifestyle changes, medications, and surgery. Early detection and management of CVD can significantly reduce the risk of serious outcomes and death.
