Cardiovascular
Disease Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a term used to describe any type of disease that affects the heart and/or blood vessels. It is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, accounting for around one-third of all deaths in the world. CVD involves the narrowing or blockage of arteries due to atherosclerosis and other conditions, leading to heart attack, stroke, and other serious health problems. Its symptoms include chest pain, difficulty breathing, fatigue, and an irregular heartbeat. Risk factors for CVD include high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, diabetes, smoking, and a sedentary lifestyle. Prevention and management of CVD requires lifestyle changes, such as healthy eating and regular physical activity. It can also be managed with medications and other treatments, such as coronary artery bypass graft surgery and balloon angioplasty.
