Sars-CoV-2
Sars-CoV-2 is a single-stranded positive-sense RNA virus, which is the cause of the current Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic. It belongs to the family Coronaviridae and is structurally similar to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) Coronavirus, from which it derives its name. Sars-CoV-2 is of significant importance as it is responsible for a global health crisis and has caused over 18 million confirmed cases worldwide. Given its genetic similarity to SARS, Sars-CoV-2 is deemed to have a similar pathogenic mechanism and therefore, it is important for us to understand it in order to develop an effective vaccine and drugs that can treat the infection. Furthermore, due to the speed of the infection, various research organizations are studying the virus and its mutation rate, which is necessary for developing effective vaccines and treatments.
