Overview

Physiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). They diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions that affect the body’s muscles, bones, nerves, and joints. Physiatrists treat people of all ages with musculoskeletal, nerve, and brain conditions that can arise from injury, disease, or life-changing events. Their aim is to help their patients regain and optimize physical function, reduce pain and discomfort, and improve overall quality of life. Physiatrists use a holistic approach, which includes physical therapy, medication, activity modification, and lifestyle changes, to treat their patients. They also consult with other specialists and collaborate to develop comprehensive treatment plans. Physiatrists are an invaluable part of a patient’s comprehensive medical team as they can help improve quality of life and empower patients to take control of their health.
