Optometry is a field of healthcare that focuses on examining and diagnosing the eyes and vision. It involves the evaluation of eyesight, the prescribing of corrective lenses and the management of ocular diseases. Optometrists have the specialized training and skills to detect and diagnose various eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and retinal detachments. They are also certified to perform eye examinations to determine the need for glasses and contact lenses as well as to detect ocular diseases and vision problems. Optometry plays an important role in maintaining healthy vision and is an essential part of overall health care.
