Overview
Behavioral genetics is a science which studies the contribution of genetic and environmental factors to the individual differences in behavior. It is an interdisciplinary field which draws on genetics, cognitive psychology, evolutionary biology, and other related sciences to understand how genes and environment interact to influence behavior. Behavioral genetics is becoming increasingly important in understanding and treating various disorders such as autism, anxiety, and substance abuse, as well as in predicting individual differences in behavior. It is used to identify genetic markers to diagnose mental health problems and to understand the development of behavioral traits. This knowledge is essential for the development of effective preventive measures and personalized treatments.
