Obesity Epidemic
Obesity is a growing epidemic across the world. It is a condition which is defined by having an excess of body fat and is associated with a range of chronic diseases and health problems. People with obesity typically experience reduced life expectancy and decreased quality of life. It is associated with numerous medical issues, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, and certain types of cancer. Additionally, the economic burden of obesity is high, due to the costs of treating obesity-related conditions. Therefore, obesity is a public health concern that requires comprehensive and long-term action from both healthcare professionals and governments to effectively tackle this growing epidemic. There are numerous strategies which can be used to combat obesity, such as improving access to healthy food, promoting physical activity, and providing lifestyle and behavioural education.
