Obesity
Obesity is a medical condition where an individual has accumulated an excessive amount of body fat, to the point where their health may be at risk. It is usually calculated and defined by a person's body mass index (BMI) which is their weight in kilograms divided by the square of their height in meters. Obesity is a major risk factor for numerous health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers. It has a significant impact on the quality of life, being associated with depression, disability and even premature death. In order to prevent and treat obesity, a combination of healthy eating, physical activity and behavioural modification is recommended.
