Public health is the science and practice of protecting and improving the health of populations through organised efforts to prevent disease, prolong life, and promote wellbeing. It addresses health at the level of communities and populations rather than individual patients, drawing on epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, environmental and behavioural sciences, and health-systems management to identify health needs, monitor disease, and design and evaluate interventions.
