Overview
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a system of healing developed in China over thousands of years. It takes a holistic view of health, aiming to restore balance within the body and between the body and its environment, and is guided by concepts such as Yin and Yang and the flow of vital energy. TCM encompasses practices including herbal medicine, acupuncture, manual techniques, and dietary therapy, and it focuses on treating the underlying patterns of disharmony rather than symptoms alone. Research within the International Journal of Complementary Medicine and affiliated journals examines TCM practices and the science behind them. One report describes the effectiveness of the Luo Yuan technique in a patient with hyperuricemia, while a network pharmacology study investigates the mechanisms of a complex essential oil that includes Angelica sinensis, a herb used in Chinese medicine, for anxiety associated with melasma. Such work applies both clinical observation and modern analytical methods to traditional remedies. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to complementary and traditional medicine, providing context for understanding Traditional Chinese Medicine and contemporary efforts to study its practices.
